The Ray Bradbury Song

.

I'll post something serious tomorrow, I promise.

But in the meantime, allow me to be five millionth science fiction writer to post the following video by comedian Rachel Bloom, who made it with her own money.  That took guts.

I should warn you that the video makes frequent use of everybody's favorite four-letter Anglo Saxon verb.  So you probably shouldn't play it when your mother's in the room.

Can the Swanwick version be far behind? If only Shane McGowan had kept himself in decent shape I'd nominate The Pogues to do it.

btw - read a nice Ray Bradbury interview a while ago, and the interviewer was none other than Frank Black of The Pixies! Not as improbable as it first sounds as The Pixies had an awful lot of sf content sneak into their songs.

That was hilarious!

It's funny how I always associate Ray Bradbury with high school. I wonder if the wider notoriety he enjoys (compared to other great SF writers active at the same time as he has been) is due in part to him being so popular with high school English teachers and public librarians. Writing a novel about fascist book burners must have been quite a boon for his career.

Isn't "your mother" a member of the set "everybody"?

Ordinarily, Richard, I would agree with you. But this particular usage was an ironic euphemism in service of decorum, so no.

In any case, my favorite Anglo Saxon verb is "sing." So the phrase is an easily falsifiable absurdity. It can slink away now in disgrace.
