More of the Mondrian story! What a pleasant surprise.
3. It is recorded that in his old age Mondrian entertained a visitor who wished to commission a portrait. "Why should I bother?" the artist said.Very clearly, I knew exactly how this story would go. I wonder why I never went back and filled in th blanks? Here's another bit of it:
. . . two lines and three colors. The lines are crisp and black. The colors are bright and flat.
"But that isn't how I look!" wailed the client.
"You will," Mondrian replied calmly. "Just as soon as . . ."
