A stripped-down version of Linux, mind you, but it does what one needs it to do, with elegant simplicity. It's not intended to be the main computer, just the on-the-road one. For the main computer, of course, an Apple. More expensive, but ya get what ya pays fer. ;)JJMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13404985455733545060noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1484180326012950400.post-36878446565380836202010-02-12T17:37:13.784-08:002010-02-12T17:37:13.784-08:00Linux! You must be ready to buy additionally mechanic keyboard, cause touch screen isn't best for writer's work :) - no tactile feedback. <br />Talking about OS - Ususally we (in Ukraine, Russia) buy netbooks/notebooks with free version of Linux (there are two options there - higher price for notebook with Widows Vista/7 or lower price for same device with Linux). Then just gonna buy XP, which is surely the best for low-productive hardware. Maybe it is way you're able to go in USA?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07792747108016155231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1484180326012950400.post-84933681340530369472010-02-12T08:58:40.683-08:002010-02-12T08:58:40.683-08:00Same initial troubles with a netbook (preloaded wi...Same initial troubles with a netbook (preloaded windows with limited software support, i.e. pay for upgrades on everything). A friend convinced me to try Ubuntu (linux). Comes with full office suite, browsers, media player, ipod software, etc., and it's free. I'm considering doing the same for my desktop - it's worth a try.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00821950158035260134noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1484180326012950400.post-33870160411523223562010-02-12T06:28:55.887-08:002010-02-12T06:28:55.887-08:00Have a safe trip!Have a safe trip!Victoria Janssenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12259793807283856761noreply@blogger.com
